MAP OF GHOST IN THE SHELL 2: INNOCENCE

the plot of the anime resembles a classic detective story
crime
a series of murders
batou
a security professional, dog lover, philosopher
togusa
detective, family man and more human
setting trap/hacked batou
In order to catch a hacker responsible for the crimes they go offshore into a strange world of hackers and memory systems where witness a surrealistic parade.
surreal parade + KIM
The parade helps them to find Kim and they get caught into a hacked loop, which is a philosophical core of the whole film. The characters there explore their hopes and fears of whether or not they're humans, how much humanity remains, is Kim just a bad recording on the loop.
guardian angel
They would be stuck there forever but for the guardian angel, which is Major Kusanagi from the first film. Her ghost appears and gives Batou the clue to break out of the loop. The puzzle is cracked and they return to the "real world" in order to save the children who have been held captive for their souls to be exploited to give more texture to sex-dolls.
liberation
This film is a revenge story of the enslaved children and sex workers murdering their evil masters.

The gorgeous scene of the surrealistic parade is the most expensive scene in the film, it took years to make, but it doesn't directly connect with the rest of the story, except that it's a parade of animatronic puppets or people in masks, it's a parade of gods, divinities, beliefs. In a way, it's a play within a play, repetition of the scenes throughout the film

Ghost in the Shell: Innocence
Shirow Masamune, a creator of the "Ghost in the Shell": "In contrast to something that retains its form, information periodically changes, and new kinds are constantly being produced. To organize these different kinds of data and use them efficiently, even more information is needed. In this way information increases in a geometric progression, until humans are buried within it"
